Job Description
Job Title: Estimator (Steel Doors / Architectural Metalwork)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Job Overview:
An experienced Estimator is required to join a growing commercial team within a specialist steel door manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in the preparation and submission of accurate and competitive cost estimates, ensuring all technical and contractual requirements are thoroughly understood and addressed. The role demands strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and the capability to collaborate effectively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:

Tender Review & Analysis:
*
Interpret and assess tender documentation, including specifications, architectural plans, elevations, schedules, and NBS specifications.
*
Identify project scope and determine appropriate product solutions to meet client needs.
*
Drawing Management:
*
Access drawings via various online platforms and portals.
*
Print, save, and mark up relevant drawings to define and clarify scope of works.
*
Cost Estimation:
*
Use a bespoke estimating system to generate detailed cost estimates.
*
Create and manage supporting spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
*
Prepare written quotations accompanied by marked-up drawings for internal review and sign-off.
*
Contractual Awareness:
*
Ensure full understanding of contractual obligations and incorporate these into pricing structures.
*
Deliver best value solutions while remaining commercially competitive.
*
Client Engagement & Negotiation:
*
Conduct financial negotiations to secure projects.
*
Maintain and strengthen relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
*
Team Collaboration:
*
Work closely with commercial, technical, and sales teams to develop practical, cost-effective project solutions.
*
Share relevant information and updates to support coordinated project delivery.
*
Time Management:
*
Prioritise workload effectively to meet tight tender submission deadlines.
*
Ensure all tasks are completed in a timely and organised manner.
Key Skills and Attributes:
*
Proven experience in estimating within the construction or manufacturing sectors (preferably related to steel doors, windows, or architectural metalwork).
*
Strong attention to detail with excellent numerical and analytical skills.
*
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with bespoke estimating software.
*
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
*
Ability to interpret complex architectural and technical documentation.
