Job Summary
As a Senior Estimator, you will play a key role in the pre-construction phase, leading the estimation process for tenders and projects ranging from £100,000 to £30 million.
You will be responsible for producing accurate cost plans, bills of quantities, and risk assessments to help secure new work and support profitability. The role requires experience across mixed-use construction sectors and a strong understanding of JCT Design & Build contracts, with some exposure to NEC.
You will work closely with internal teams, clients, architects, quantity surveyors, and subcontractors to refine project scopes and identify value engineering opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation and submission of tenders, including single-stage, two-stage, and framework bids
Develop detailed cost plans and pricing strategies from initial enquiry through to contract award
Produce accurate estimates using Causeway software, including bills of quantities and risk registers
Analyse drawings, specifications, and site conditions to identify cost-saving opportunities
Advise on construction methodologies to maximise efficiency and commercial advantage
Review and provide input on client budgets prior to formal tender release
Coordinate with bid teams to produce high-quality, compliant tender submissions
Manage post-tender negotiations, clarifications, and contract awards
Support and mentor junior estimators, including training and line management
Ensure compliance with UK building regulations, health & safety standards, and sustainability practices
Report on tender progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership
Skills & Experience
10-15 years' estimating experience within the UK construction industry
Strong background in mixed-use projects (commercial, industrial, residential, retirement, and charity sectors)
Proven experience delivering tenders for projects up to £30 million
Proficient in Causeway estimating software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
In-depth knowledge of cost planning, tendering processes, and value engineering
Experience working with JCT Design & Build contracts; NEC experience desirable
Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
Professional membership (e.g. RICS or CIOB) desirable
Full UK driving licence
