Job Description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator to join an established and growing main contractor based in Newcastle.

The business has a strong track record of delivering commercial, education, healthcare and public sector projects, with a significant proportion of its workload secured through established frameworks and repeat business.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of upcoming work, they are looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to strengthen their pre-construction team.

The successful candidate will work across a varied portfolio of refurbishment and build projects, with values reaching up to approximately £20m. This is an excellent opportunity for an Estimator who enjoys working across multiple sectors and has a strong understanding of refurbishment, build and framework-led procurement.

The Role

  * 

    Prepare and manage tenders across commercial, education, healthcare and public sector projects up to £20m.

  * 

    Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and employer's requirements.

  * 

    Complete detailed take-offs and prepare accurate project pricing.

  * 

    Obtain, assess and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.

  * 

    Identify commercial risks, opportunities and potential value engineering opportunities.

  * 

    Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and clients throughout the tender process.

  * 

    Attend site visits, tender meetings and pre-construction meetings.

  * 

    Prepare detailed tender submissions and supporting documentation.

  * 

    Work closely with the pre-construction, commercial and operational teams.

  * 

    Manage multiple tenders and ensure submissions are completed within agreed deadlines.

About You

  * 

    Proven experience as an Estimator within a main contracting environment, with a strong refurbishment and build background.

  * 

    Experience across commercial, education, healthcare or public sector projects.

  * 

    Previous experience working on framework projects would be highly advantageous.

  * 

    Proven experience pricing projects up to approximately £20m.

  * 

    Strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing and buildability.

  * 

    Excellent knowledge of subcontractor procurement and supply chains.

  * 

    Strong commercial awareness, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

  * 

    Strong communication and negotiation skills.

  * 

    Experience using relevant estimating and take-off software.

  * 

    Relevant construction or commercial qualifications would be advantageous.
