Job Description

Estimator – Civil Engineering

Location: Northampton
Salary: £55,000 + Car Allowance
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 Days Working from Home

We are currently recruiting for an Estimator to join the civil engineering division of a well-established and highly regarded construction contractor based in Northampton. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Estimator who is looking to develop their career within a growing civil engineering division, working on a varied portfolio of technically challenging projects across the UK.

The successful Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders from initial enquiry through to submission, working closely with the pre-construction and commercial teams to develop robust pricing strategies. Projects will include civil engineering, groundworks, infrastructure and associated construction works, providing excellent exposure to a broad range of project types and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  * Preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates and tenders for civil engineering and groundworks projects.

  * Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scopes of works.

  * Undertaking quantity take-offs and measurement from drawings and specifications.

  * Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.

  * Preparing bills of quantities, schedules of rates and pricing documents.

  * Identifying project risks, opportunities and potential commercial issues during the tender process.

  * Liaising with subcontractors, suppliers, clients, consultants and internal teams.

  * Assisting with the preparation of tender submissions and supporting documentation.

  * Working closely with the commercial and pre-construction teams to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.

  * Attending tender meetings and supporting the handover of successful projects to the delivery team.

  * Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of labour, plant, material and subcontractor costs.

  * Contributing to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and procedures.
