The Opportunity

Sphere Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator with a roofing and cladding background to join a well-established specialist contractor based in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Roofing & Cladding Estimator looking for a temporary position initially, with the potential for the role to become permanent if the arrangement works well.

The company operates across a broad range of roofing and cladding projects, working with main contractors and clients across the commercial, residential, education and public sectors. Their work includes commercial flat roofing, rainscreen façades, reclad projects, metal roofing and various specialist roofing and cladding systems.

Projects typically range in value from approximately £20,000 to £4 million, providing a varied workload and the opportunity to work on both smaller specialist packages and larger commercial schemes.

The successful candidate will be based from the company's Bristol office. Once familiar with the company's systems, processes and workload, there may be scope for a hybrid working arrangement.

Key Responsibilities

Preparing accurate estimates and tenders for roofing and cladding projects.

Carrying out detailed quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications and project information.

Reviewing architectural and construction drawings to identify project requirements.

Pricing labour, materials, plant, subcontractor works and associated project costs.

Obtaining and assessing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.

Managing the tender process from initial enquiry through to submission.

Identifying project exclusions, risks, assumptions and potential commercial issues.

Preparing detailed and competitive tender submissions.

Reviewing specifications and ensuring all relevant requirements are incorporated into pricing.

Dealing with tender queries and providing clarification where required.

Working closely with the wider commercial and operational teams.

Supporting value engineering and alternative solutions where appropriate.

Maintaining accurate estimating records and tender documentation.

Ensuring tenders are submitted accurately and within required deadlines.

Assisting with handover of successful tenders to the delivery/commercial team.

Project Experience

The company delivers a varied portfolio of roofing and cladding projects, including:

Commercial developments.

Residential schemes.

Education projects.

Public-sector developments.

Commercial flat roofing.

Metal roofing and standing seam systems.

Rainscreen façade systems.

Composite cladding systems.

Reclad and refurbishment projects.

Built-up roofing systems.

Insulation and membrane systems.

Associated flashings, trims and detailing.

Experience of projects ranging from smaller packages through to £4m+ roofing and cladding packages would be highly advantageous.

Essential Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

Previous estimating experience within the roofing and cladding industry – essential.

Strong understanding of roofing and cladding systems and associated construction methods.

Experience carrying out detailed take-offs and preparing project costs.

Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.

Experience obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations.

Understanding of the full tender process.

Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness.

Ability to identify risks, exclusions and potential cost issues.

Good communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.

Experience with some or all of the following would be advantageous:

Flat roofing systems.

Metal roofing.

Standing seam roofing.

Rainscreen façades.

Composite cladding.

Insulation systems.

Membranes.

Fire barriers.

Flashings and associated roofing details.

Reclad projects.

Software & Systems

Specific estimating software experience is not essential.

The existing estimating team currently carries out take-offs manually and uses Microsoft Excel for pricing and tender preparation, so candidates with strong practical estimating experience and good Excel skills will be considered.
