Location: South Manchester (Office Based)
Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 DOE
Working Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00-17:00 (Early Finish 16:00 on Fridays)
Company Overview
A well-established SME Main Contractor based in South Manchester, specialising in high-quality commercial and laboratory fit-out projects across the North West. Working across a range of projects from £10K to £1.8M, with a sweet spot around £100K, and prided on building strong, lasting relationships with clients - often winning repeat work or direct deals through our reputation for quality and flexibility.
Due to sustained growth and a healthy pipeline of framework work, repeat business, and direct negotiations, they're looking to add an experienced and commercially aware Estimator to our close-knit team.
Role Overview
As an Estimator, you'll play a key role in the pre-construction team, working alongside another experienced estimator to manage enquiries, costings, and tender submissions. You'll be responsible for developing competitive, accurate estimates that help secure projects ranging from small works to major refurbishments.
This role is perfect for someone with strong commercial acumen who enjoys working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and wants to make a real impact in a growing business.
Key Responsibilities
Manage incoming enquiries, assess scope, and determine suitability for tender.
Prepare detailed cost estimates for a wide range of commercial and lab fit-out projects.
Source and assess subcontractor and supplier quotes to support pricing strategy.
Collaborate with directors and project leads to ensure commercial viability and strategy align with company objectives.
Support and contribute to tender submissions, including pricing documents and value engineering options.
Assist with pricing framework opportunities, negotiated tenders, and repeat business bids.
Identify potential project risks and suggest mitigation strategies during tender stage.
Maintain accurate records of tenders, pricing, and outcomes to support future decision-making.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
Previous experience as an Estimator within a fit-out or construction environment.
Strong understanding of commercial fit-outs, pricing methodologies, and supply chain dynamics.
Competent in reading and interpreting drawings, specs, and contract documents.
Commercially minded - aware of profit margins, risk, and client value.
Confident communicator with good negotiation and organisational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g., Conquest, Causeway, or similar).
Preferred:
Knowledge of lab fit-out environments or similar technical sectors.
Experience working for SME main contractors.
Familiarity with frameworks and direct deal procurement methods.
