Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to support the financial costing and planning of construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for estimating costs associated with building works, including materials, labour, plant, equipment, subcontractors, and overheads.
Using technical drawings, specifications, and current market rates, you will prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets that ensure the financial viability of projects. Your input will support tender submissions, contract negotiations, and ongoing cost monitoring, valuations, and payments throughout the full lifecycle of a project.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare accurate cost estimates and budgets based on project drawings and specifications.
Quantify and cost all elements of a construction project including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overheads.
Contribute to tender documentation and support pricing for new business opportunities.
Monitor and manage costs throughout the project lifecycle, including valuations and progress payments.
Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to align project budgets with design objectives.
Identify potential cost risks and provide value engineering solutions where applicable.
Assist in contract negotiations and ensure financial governance is maintained throughout delivery.
Skills & Experience Required:
Proven experience in a similar Estimator or Quantity Surveyor role within the construction industry.
Strong understanding of construction methods, technical drawings, and building specifications.
Excellent numerical and analytical skills with strong commercial awareness.
Experience preparing detailed cost estimates and managing budgets.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Good communication skills and attention to detail.
Desirable Qualifications:
Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
Professional membership (e.g., RICS or CIOB) is advantageous but not essential.
