Job Description
The Client:
A respected and long-established specialist building contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across fast-track fit-out, total refurbishment and new build within the education, leisure, retail, public and healthcare sectors. With a growing order book and a reputation for technical excellence, the company is now looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to support their pre-construction team.
The Role:
As Estimator, you’ll take responsibility for preparing competitive tenders across a range of specialist construction projects, working from head office on the Colchester outskirts or on a hybrid basis. You’ll assess drawings, prepare cost plans, liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, and work closely with senior management to ensure accurate and commercially robust bids are submitted. This is an exciting opportunity offering flexibility, with the option of hybrid working and consideration for both permanent and freelance candidates.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for a range of general building and fit-out projects.
• Analyse drawings, specifications and project documents to prepare accurate costings.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
• Identify risks and opportunities in the tender process, advising senior management accordingly.
• Work closely with project and commercial teams to ensure continuity from tender through to delivery.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, material prices and supply chain performance.
• Contribute to the development of the company’s pre-construction processes and strategy.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Proven experience as an Estimator within the construction industry – previous main contracting experience is essential.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to prepare accurate cost plans.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and estimating software.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously under tight deadlines.
• Based within commuting distance of Colchester, with hybrid working options available.
