Job Description

Estimator - Groundworks & Residential Construction Location: Norwich (Head Office) Salary: £45,000-£55,000 per annum (DOE) Hours: Full-time, 41.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday) We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading groundworks and civil engineering company, who are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Estimator to join their Head Office team in Norwich. This role reports to the Lead Estimator and supports both the Production and Commercial Departments, playing a key part in the company's commercial operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious candidate with strong organisational skills, excellent IT proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. You'll be confident on the phone, calm under pressure, and proactive about developing your knowledge and career within a supportive team. Key Responsibilities Estimate work value from site visits, architectural drawings, and specifications Maintain a comprehensive database of cost information for planning purposes Obtain budget quotations and guide prices for specialist works Support the Small Works Team and residential construction projects Undertake manual and digital take-offs from drawings for roads, sewers, foundations, and external works Research costs for materials, transport, labour, and equipment Build and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers Obtain and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors within required timeframes Prepare and submit quotations and cost analysis to the Lead Estimator Interpret architectural and engineering drawings and reports Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook in daily operations Qualifications Essential: GCSE Grades A-C / 5-9 in Maths, English, and ICT Desirable: Recognised Civils/Engineering/Construction qualification (HND/HNC or higher - training available for the right candidate) Skills & Experience Essential: Strong IT skills, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook Excellent verbal and written communication skills Self-motivated and able to manage own workload Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills Calm under pressure with the ability to multitask Strong numerical ability and methodical problem-solving approach Willingness to learn, develop, and support team goals Able to work independently and collaboratively Desirable: Previous experience in groundworks or residential construction Familiarity with construction materials, techniques, and processes Experience working from technical drawings and documents Exposure to commercial estimating processes Experience managing supplier or client relationships Benefits Competitive salary: £45,000-£55,000 per annum (DOE) Full-time, 41.5 hours per week 28 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays) Company Pension Scheme Private Healthcare Cover Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Free on-site parking Why Apply?
