Job Description

Hawkmoore Recruitment are currently working with a large construction company who are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join their team. Location: Head Office – Baildon, Shipley Job Type: Full-Time (Office-Based) Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm Salary: Negotiable Holiday Entitlement: 26 days per annum (6 to be taken at Christmas) + Statutory Bank Holidays Pension: Company Pension Scheme Role Overview The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tender bids based on client requirements, site conditions, and subcontractor input. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to health, safety, and environmental responsibilities. Responsibilities: Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities; Take reasonable care for personal health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your actions. Communicate company policies and expectations clearly to all personnel and subcontractors during procurement. Ensure H&S and environmental considerations—such as risk assessments, selection criteria, and monitoring—are applied in the subcontractor selection process. Promote open communication and consultation regarding H&S and environmental matters with employees and stakeholders. Give equal importance to health, safety, and the environment as to time, cost, and quality in all decisions and communications. Verify that all activities have suitable H&S and environmental risk assessments with identified hazards and mitigation steps. Properly use all safeguarding systems and personal protective equipment (PPE) provided. Ensure all subcontractors provide and use appropriate PPE. Treat all individuals with respect and actively promote good H&S practices. Key Tasks – Tendering Process; Receive and respond to tender invitations from project partners. Conduct site visits to assess access, restrictions, and unique site features. Create Information Required schedules and submit queries to clients or their representatives. Measure drawings and produce Bills of Quantities (BOQ) in line with tender specifications. Send enquiries to approved subcontractors and maintain an up-to-date approved subcontractor database. Evaluate and integrate subcontractor quotes and prices into the overall tender submission. Identify trade requirements and compile schedules for materials and plant. Verify compliance of materials and equipment with manual handling regulations. Account for mechanical offloading requirements in tenders. Use estimating and design software such as Conquest, Excel, Word, and Autodesk DWG TrueView. Identify and communicate delivery constraints (e.g., times, vehicle size) to subcontractors. Include requirements for delivery on suitable pallets (e.g., bricks and blocks). Ensure special ground condition requirements (e.g., piling) and associated plant are considered in tenders. Fully incorporate scaffolding needs including access, loading bays, and design requirements. Only use subcontractor prices from the approved list or complete new approvals prior to inclusion. Allow for adequate time and resources to deliver the project within the tender. Review and finalise tender submissions with project partners before submitting to clients or their representatives.
