Experienced Social Worker Location: Town Hall, Walliscote Grove Road, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1UJ Start Date: ASAP Contract Duration: 3+ Months Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week Pay Rate: £ 21.52 per hour  Job Ref: OR9371 Responsibilities Deliver specific work streams and provide technical advice and guidance to others involved in service delivery. Ensure the protection of children and adhere to professional standards to enhance the outcomes for children and young people. Undertake S47, assessment, planning, intervention, and review to support children in need, including child protection, care proceedings, and children looked after. Work collaboratively with other professionals to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to improving outcomes for children, young people, and their families. Participate in high-quality supervision and rigorous self-evaluation through annual appraisal and half-year reviews. Provide services in line with statutory requirements and departmental priorities. Undertake the full range of social work tasks with children in need and their families, including assessment, planning, intervention, and review. Ensure children, young people, and parents/carers are listened to and treated with respect, with their views recorded in assessments, planning, intervention, and review. Act as the lead professional key worker in statutory cases requiring a qualified social worker. Contribute to or coordinate a multi-disciplinary approach where children are subject to safeguarding plans, care proceedings, or admission to accommodation. Demonstrate evidence-based practice in day-to-day work with children and families. Participate positively in professional supervision and annual appraisal review, taking personal responsibility for the quality of practice. Contribute to team working, support colleagues, and participate in team meetings and development events. Maintain accurate and up-to-date child records using the Council's electronic case recording/reporting tool. Be active in implementing the council’s equal opportunities policy in professional practice and service delivery. Work flexible hours as required by the service, including outside normal office hours, evenings, and weekends. Ensure Health and Safety and Safeguarding of all young people with whom you work. Comply with legal obligations, including the Data Protection Act 1984. Person Specification Registered as a social worker with Social Work England. Possess a Social Work Qualification, such as a Social Work Degree or Diploma in Social Work. Experience of direct work with children in need and their families and statutory childcare work in a local authority setting. Ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, and families to ensure effective outcomes. Support family cohesion and empower families to manage their own lives. Safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable children and young people. Develop purposeful and outcome-focused relationships with children, young people, and their parents/carers. Provide child-centered social work practice based on social work value principles. Analyze, interpret, and make professional judgments when undertaking assessments. Develop, implement, and review plans based on assessments of children and families, detailing identified needs and intended service outcomes. Make effective decisions appropriate to the responsibilities of a social worker. Work as part of a multi-agency team, including acting as a lead professional. Reflect on own practice and make effective use of supervision, coaching, and training/development opportunities. Be creative and empowered to solve problems and find solutions to overcome challenges and barriers. Ability to travel within the geographical area of North Somerset and willingness to work outside normal working hours. Participate in North Somerset Council’s appraisal system and undertake training and development as required. Maintain the Council’s comprehensive equality policy, race and disability scheme. Maintain professional standards of behavior outside of work to uphold the Council's standing and reputation. Possess emotional resilience to cope with the duties, responsibilities, and stresses associated with a professional social work role. A satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure certificate is required.
