Experienced Social Worker Location: Town Hall, Walliscote Grove Road, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1UJ Start Date: ASAP Contract Duration: 2+ Months Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week Pay Rate: £ 21.52 per hour  Job Ref: OR10064 Responsibilities Manage a multi-disciplined team to ensure service delivery and be part of the management team with collective responsibility for strategic development in partnership with other professionals. Ensure the protection of children and enhance their outcomes by meeting professional standards set by Social Work England. Support and enable the team to build meaningful relationships with families and protect children at risk of harm. Ensure statutory childcare duties are met and high standards of professional practice are delivered. Provide professional leadership, decision-making advice, supervision, and support to social workers. Ensure an effective duty system within the team and deliver the assigned area of responsibility through effective deployment of staff and resources. Implement Council’s policies on HR issues, including equalities, discrimination, harassment, and health & safety. Manage and supervise staff, ensuring appropriate workload allocation and promotion of manageable caseloads and project work. Ensure regular staff supervision, performance appraisal, coaching, and facilitation. Work with the Principal Social Worker on staff recruitment, retention, and selection. Promote good attendance and conduct within the service and ensure compliance with professional codes of practice. Manage delegated budget within agreed financial limits and monitor expenditure to ensure effective service provision. Prioritize and monitor workload to ensure appropriate service provision levels. Assist in developing, implementing, and auditing service quality and performance management. Ensure team contributions to safeguarding children by following relevant legislation and guidelines. Investigate complaints and disciplinary allegations as required, ensuring senior managers are informed where necessary. Promote the use of Early Help across partner agencies and continually monitor and improve services. Work in partnership with the Police and other agencies to ensure investigations are completed within statutory timescales. Chair strategy discussions and legal planning meetings as required. Lead preparation for and response to inspection standards. Ensure effective service delivery and first contact information gathering with the provider of the call handling service. Involve children, young people, and carers in assessing their needs and service delivery, gathering feedback to support service improvement. Attend performance monitoring forums to maintain standards. Person Specification Registered as a social worker with Social Work England and hold a Social Work Qualification. Achieved or committed to studying for a specialist PQ award or equivalent. Possess a social work degree, management qualification NVQ level 4, or working towards level 4 with 5 years post-qualifying experience. Approved professional qualification relevant to the area of work for Social Work England registration. Specialist knowledge of childcare and thorough understanding of service principles and processes. Significant post-qualification experience in management and leadership in the relevant work area. Knowledge of safeguarding protocols and threshold levels for service user groups. Ability to lead and manage staff through significant changes and motivate them. Effective communication skills in person, by phone, and in writing. Experience in service development and embedding improvements into work methodologies. Ability to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information. Experience in planning and chairing meetings. Practical experience in service delivery and leading others to deliver the service. Knowledge and experience of managing budgets, resourcing, and contracts. Ability to manage and organize own work and that of a team to meet deadlines. Understanding and recognition of professional boundaries.
