Job Description

Extrusion Operator / Setter Location: Manchester Salary: £36,000 - £40,000 (DOE) Shifts: 4 on / 4 off rotational - 6am-6pm / 6pm-6am Our client, a long-established and respected manufacturer based in Manchester, is seeking an experienced Extrusion Operator/Setter to join their production team. This is a permanent position offering a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and the opportunity to develop within a business that values its people. Benefits and Rewards Competitive salary: £36,000 - £40,000 (depending on experience) Shift pattern: 4 on / 4 off rotation for improved work/life balance Paid breaks: 30 minutes per shift Annual leave: 23 days including Bank Holidays Benefits package: Company pension scheme Life insurance cover Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) Discounts via the BrightHR portal Location perks: Free on-site parking and close tram links Long-term job security with a business that continues to grow The Role Reporting to the Shift Supervisor / Production Manager, the Extrusion Operator / Setter will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of extrusion lines. This position requires strong technical knowledge, the ability to troubleshoot, and a proactive approach to maintaining production performance. You will be expected to take ownership of your line, minimise downtime, and work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure that output targets and quality standards are consistently achieved. Key Responsibilities Operate, monitor, and maintain extrusion lines under optimum conditions Carry out tooling changeovers, machine start-ups, shutdowns, and cleaning of barrels and screws Troubleshoot and resolve production or quality issues efficiently Produce high-quality extruded products in line with specifications Conduct and record quality checks throughout the shift Complete accurate end-of-shift handovers Move raw materials and finished products safely using forklift/manual handling Support extrusion trials and process improvements (Grades 4 & 5) Minimise scrap levels and contribute to continuous improvement Maintain housekeeping standards in line with 5S Ensure compliance with operating procedures, health and safety regulations, and company policies Key Performance Indicators Machine uptime and efficiency levels Reduction in downtime and scrap Consistent achievement of quality standards High standards of housekeeping and safety compliance Knowledge, Skills and Experience Proven experience in profile extrusion is essential Strong technical understanding of plastics and extrusion processes Ability to work to production deadlines and priorities Good knowledge of Health and Safety in a manufacturing environment Evidence of efficiency improvements or process optimisation desirable Core Competencies Self-motivated and proactive with a flexible approach to business needs Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Effective communicator with good interpersonal skills Decisive and confident in taking responsibility Team player with leadership potential when required Reliable, quality-focused, and committed to continuous improvement Why Join Our Client?
