Job Description

EYFS Nurture Teachers – Wigan £26–£30 per hour (PAYE) 1:1 Relational Teaching | Flexible Hours | Immediate Start Are you a qualified Early Years teacher looking for a more meaningful way to teach — one that’s rooted in play, connection, and care? We’re looking for compassionate EYFS educators in Wigan who are ready to step away from the pressures of traditional classrooms and reconnect with the true heart of teaching — nurturing one child at a time. Why choose this role? This isn’t your standard teaching job. As a Nurture Teacher, you’ll work one-to-one with children in the early years or early primary stages who are currently outside of mainstream education. These children may be experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges and need more than just academic input — they need empathy, structure, and a safe adult who sees them. You’ll have the freedom to tailor learning around each child, using play-based approaches, early phonics, and relational strategies to gently support their development and help them rebuild trust in learning. What you’ll be doing: * Delivering individualised sessions using play, stories, songs, and sensory exploration to spark engagement and learning * Supporting the development of early phonics, communication, social skills, and emotional literacy * Using a trauma-informed, attachment-aware approach that fosters safety and connection * Creating safe, nurturing environments in local libraries, community spaces, schools, or sometimes in the child’s home (fully risk-assessed) * Encouraging curiosity and confidence through creativity, consistency, and compassion * Applying knowledge of the EYFS Framework, with flexibility to follow the child’s lead and interests You’d be a great fit if you: * Bring warmth, patience, and playfulness to every interaction * Understand the value of play as learning in the early years * Can adapt your approach to meet each child’s emotional and developmental needs * Have experience with (or are open to) approaches like Theraplay, nurture-based practice, and sensory play * Want to work in a way that prioritises relationships over routines and joy over pressure Essential requirements: * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent * Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one) * Knowledge or experience of: * SEND * SEMH * EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance) * EYFS curriculum and early phonics * Trauma-informed or relational approaches This role is ideal for: * EYFS teachers looking for a more balanced and rewarding teaching experience * Early Career Teachers (ECTs) seeking meaningful, supported roles * Experienced or semi-retired teachers who still want to make an impact — on their own terms What we offer: * £26–£30 per hour (PAYE) * Flexible working hours to suit your lifestyle * A supportive, understanding consultant who truly values relational educators * Access to CPD, reflective supervision, and trauma-informed training * Regular peer support events and Nurture Teacher meetups * A kind, values-led team that puts wellbeing — yours and the children’s — first Ready to reconnect with what matters? If you believe in the power of play, presence, and patience — and want to teach in a way that truly makes a difference — we’d love to hear from you. Let’s nurture a love of learning, one child and one connection at a time. 🌿 We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. All roles are subject to enhanced DBS checks and robust safeguarding protocols
