Are you a proactive and detail-driven Facilities Manager looking to make a real impact in the public sector?
An ambitious and forward-thinking local authority is seeking a talented Facilities Manager to join their dynamic Property and Commercial Services team. You will play a key role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and compliance of a diverse property portfolio—supporting both planned and reactive maintenance works while contributing to long-term asset strategies.
About the Role
In this varied and hands-on position, you’ll be responsible for:
Overseeing planned preventative and reactive maintenance works across mechanical and electrical services.
Monitoring compliance with statutory servicing and inspection deadlines.
Commissioning and supervising contractors to deliver remedial and cyclical maintenance work.
Managing asbestos records, legionella assessments, energy contracts, and utility usage.
Providing expert advice on building services, health & safety, and compliance matters.
Leading on condition surveys and updating the asset management database.
Supporting financial planning and budget analysis for property works programmes.
Deputising for the Property Compliance and Maintenance Manager when required.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience:
Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services.
Up-to-date understanding of building compliance legislation, including H&S, asbestos, legionella, CDM and the Building Safety Act.
Experience in managing maintenance contractors and performance monitoring.
Ability to write specifications, issue permits, and coordinate works from end to end.
Confident user of MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
Project management experience.
Experience in supervising or mentoring staff.
Scheduling and budget management.
Qualifications:
Higher-level qualification in Engineering or Building Services (or equivalent).
Health and Safety qualifications.
