Facilities Operative – New Malden
Salary: £28,000 – £32,000
Location: New Malden
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain UK Security Check (SC) clearance
Join a leading defence contractor and play a key role in keeping our New Malden site running smoothly. As a Facilities Operative, you’ll be hands-on, helping to maintain, improve, and optimise our work environment so our teams can focus on their critical missions.

What You’ll Be Doing
*
Support the Assistant Facilities Manager to keep the site safe, well-maintained, and efficient.
*
Carry out day-to-day maintenance – basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and small repairs.
*
Respond quickly to issues such as lighting faults, leaks, and urgent minor repairs.
*
Conduct regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and systems to spot and fix problems early.
*
Escort and oversee contractors on-site, making sure they follow health, safety, and security rules.
*
Move, assemble, and install office furniture and equipment for layout changes and office moves.
*
Assist with access control, unlocking/locking areas, and checking in contractors.
*
Keep cleaning tools, supplies, and materials organised and ready to use.
*
Cover for the Deputy Facilities Manager when required.
*
Always follow safety policies to protect staff, visitors, and contractors.
General Site Support
*
Supervise the cleaning team and ensure high standards are maintained.
*
Keep outdoor areas tidy with light gardening, litter picking, and basic landscaping.
*
Monitor and report stock levels for cleaning supplies, tools, and furniture.
*
Support site waste management, including recycling and safe disposal.
*
Help with weather-related duties such as gritting paths in icy weather.
*
Take part in regular team meetings and contribute to site improvement ideas.
*
Ensure all activities meet company policies and UK Health & Safety requirements.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
*
Eligible for UK SC Security Clearance.
*
Hands-on experience in a similar maintenance or facilities role.
Desirable:
*
Relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds Handyman Course, NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Building Maintenance or Multi-Trade Repairs.
*
SC Clearance already in place.
*
First Aid at Work certificate.
