Family Assessment Worker (Temp to Perm) Location: Selly Oak, Birmingham Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent Pay Rate: £13 per hour Shift Pattern: Days & Nights (including lone working nights) Role Overview We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Family Assessment Worker to join a residential family assessment service supporting families where there are Child Protection concerns. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering the chance to transition into a permanent role following a successful temporary period. You will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based assessments that inform care planning and court proceedings. Working closely with families, you will observe and record parenting capacity, childcare tasks, and family interactions in line with the National Assessment Framework, ensuring all assessments are objective, detailed, and professional. Key Responsibilities Work as part of a multidisciplinary team within a residential assessment setting Supervise and observe childcare tasks and family routines Undertake direct work and individual sessions with families to promote positive parenting Produce high-quality, objective, evidence-based assessment recordings Complete detailed written reports for internal use and potential Court proceedings Observe and record interactions between children, parents, and environmental factors Provide appropriate advice, guidance, and support to families in line with agreed programmes Work collaboratively with Case Managers, Team Managers, and Training Managers Maintain professional standards aligned with safeguarding and organisational values Adhere to policies relating to confidentiality, health & safety, and safeguarding Shift & Environment Requirements Night shifts require female staff due to service requirements Lone working applies on night shifts CCTV operates throughout the building Mandatory induction shift required prior to working independentlyEssential Requirements Experience working with families within Child Protection or safeguarding services Strong observation, assessment, and report-writing skills Ability to produce clear, factual, and court-ready documentation Professional, objective, and non-judgemental approach Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong understanding of safeguarding practice and professional boundaries Flexibility to work a rota including nightsImportant Notes This placement is subject to client-specific requirements Certain individuals may not be eligible to return to this service Candidates must meet all compliance and suitability criteriaWhat We Offer Temp to perm opportunity with long-term career potential Supportive team environment Structured induction and ongoing guidance Opportunity to make a real impact on children and families A role that directly influences care planning and safeguarding decisions
