Family Court Adviser (Children's Social Worker) - CAFCASS - West Midlands (Birmingham, Stafford, Stoke, Worcester) About the Role CAFCASS (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service) is urgently seeking experienced Children's Social Workers to join as Family Court Advisers across Birmingham, Stafford, Stoke, and Worcester. You will work within Private and/or Public Law teams, supporting children and families involved in court proceedings. This role is ideal for social workers with expertise in Section 7 report writing, child-focused assessments, and family court advocacy. Your work will ensure the best interests of children are represented, and their welfare and safety are prioritised in all court-related matters. Key Responsibilities As a Family Court Adviser, your responsibilities include: Conducting child-focused assessments and directly engaging with children to understand and represent their views to the court. Preparing high-quality Section 7 reports and other statutory documentation for Family Court proceedings. Applying robust risk assessment and mediation skills to advocate for arrangements prioritising children's welfare. Working on a combination of Private Law cases (family agreements) and Public Law cases (local authority involvement). Representing children's voices professionally and confidently in court settings. Managing a caseload independently, ensuring timely and effective delivery of services. Collaborating with legal professionals, local authorities, and multi-agency teams to deliver child-centred outcomes. Essential Requirements Recognised Social Work qualification (Degree or equivalent). Current Social Work England registration. Minimum 3 years' post-qualified experience in children and families social work. Strong knowledge of Family Court processes, including Section 7 report writing. Experience in Private and/or Public Law proceedings is advantageous. Organised, resilient, and able to work autonomously while managing deadlines.
