Agency Family Court Adviser (FCA)
Location: Brighton-based | Covering Sussex & Surrey
Teams: Work To First Hearing (WTFH) & Work?After?First?Hearing (WAFH) teams within Cafcass (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service)
Work Pattern: Predominantly remote, with occasional in?office or hearing visits as needed
About the Teams
WTFH (Work To First Hearing) Team: Focuses on private law cases up to the first court hearing. FCAs in this team manage early safeguarding checks, prepare initial reports, and shape early court processes-including urgent Section?16A risk assessments and safeguarding letters.
WAFH (Work After First Hearing) Team: Takes on cases post-first hearing. FCAs support ongoing private law case planning, update reports, advise on contact arrangements, and contribute to final court recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high quality assessments and recommendations to the Family Court across both private and public law proceedings.
Independently manage caseloads within WTFH or WAFH streams-including S7 reports, risk assessments, and court filings.
Engage with children, parents, carers, and agencies using remote technology (video calls, digital tools), supplemented by occasional in-person visits in Sussex & Surrey.
Ensure accurate record-keeping on ChildFirst and timely delivery of reports/recommendations.
Essential Requirements
Registered Social Worker with Social Work England (SWE).
Proven experience as a Court Social Worker, ideally within private law contexts.
Strong knowledge of safeguarding, public/private law, and court-advisory procedures.
Confident working across both WTFH and WAFH stages.
Comfortable working predominantly remotely, with occasional travel across Sussex & Surrey.
