Field Service Engineer – Controls
About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled Field Service Engineer with a strong background in industrial automation and controls. This position will be embedded at a customer facility, serving as the primary point of contact for all machine control functions. You’ll play a key role in ensuring reliable equipment performance and sharing technical knowledge to support operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities

Act as the on-site subject matter expert for controls-related systems, including PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, and diagnostics.

Troubleshoot, adjust, and optimize automated equipment to meet production goals.
*
Support installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing of new systems.
*
Provide hands-on training and technical guidance to customer teams.
*
Collaborate with engineering, project, and service teams to address technical challenges and performance improvements.
*
Assist with retrofits, upgrades, and reliability initiatives to extend equipment lifecycle.
*
Maintain accurate technical documentation, change records, and service reports.
*
Work with suppliers and internal teams to resolve equipment issues.
*
Ensure compliance with site safety standards and industry quality requirements.
*
Deliver regular updates on performance metrics, customer satisfaction, and opportunities for system enhancements.
What We’re Looking For
*
Degree in Controls Engineering (or related discipline) or equivalent professional experience.
*
3+ years in automation/controls, ideally with experience in complex, large-scale industrial systems.
*
Strong knowledge of Rockwell and/or Siemens PLC programming, architecture, and networks.
*
Experience with servo motion systems (camming experience a plus).
*
Familiarity with robotics (ABB, Fanuc), vision systems, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet).
*
Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
*
Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-focused mindset.
*
Proficiency with Microsoft 365; Salesforce knowledge is an advantage.
*
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
*
Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable working independently in fast-paced environments.
*
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within North America and Europe as required.
*
Willingness to be based at customer sites during project build and embedded service phases.
Additional Information
*
This role requires occasional weekend support and flexibility to travel.
*
Physical requirements include standing, walking, and light lifting.
*
Work may involve exposure to high noise or active manufacturing environments
