Field Service Engineer

Salary: Up to £20 per hour

Location: Chesterfield and surrounding areas (field-based)

Hours: Full time, Monday–Friday (Days only) Paid door-to-door & overtime at 1.5x after 40 hours per week.

We’re looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer, you’ll work on-site at customer locations, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining hydraulic and mechanical systems, with routine basic electrical fault finding and repair. The role suits candidates from a machinery, recycling, or heavy-equipment background who are comfortable working independently.

Key responsibilities

  * Service, inspect, diagnose and repair hydraulic systems

  * Carry out routine fault finding, mechanical and electrical repairs

  * Read and interpret technical drawings, hydraulic/electrical schematics and parts manuals

  * Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and breakdown response activities on-site

  * Dismantle, rebuild and refit hydraulic components

  * Fit, align and commission replacement components and retrofit upgrades

  * Liaise directly with customers to explain faults, repair options and recommend improvements

Skills and experience required

  * Proven field service or workshop experience working on hydraulic and mechanical systems

  * Background in recycling machinery, mobile plant, agriculture, or general industrial machinery desirable

  * Competence in basic electrical fault finding and wiring repairs

  * Ability to read technical drawings

  * Full UK driving licence

  * NVQ/City & Guilds or relevant or time served experience
