GMP Recruitment are proud to partner a cutting-edge and specialist engineering company based in the West Midlands. We are recruiting on their behalf for a Service Engineer to join their expert team on a full-time, permanent basis.
Our client is a leading and innovative organisation in a specialist defence related industry. Due to this you will need to pass security vetting upon employment.
This is a full-time role split approximately 50/50 between site-based work at their West Midlands facility and field-based deployments, including frequent international travel. A competitive salary is on offer of up to £43,000 per annum dependant on experience.
The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical/electrical engineering background, excellent problem-solving ability, and the confidence to represent the business directly with clients in critical, high-stakes environments.
Service Engineer main duties:
* Commission, service, and maintain specialist mechanical and electronic systems at HQ and on-site with customers
* Provide confident, professional, and technically accurate support in the field
* Troubleshoot equipment faults under pressure in operational or high-security settings
* Train and guide end-users on the correct usage and maintenance of equipment
* Communicate field-based technical insights to internal engineering and development teams
* Maintain comprehensive service records, documentation, and reports
* Support assembly and internal testing of systems while in the workshop
* Learn and apply machining and diagnostic processes as part of in-house training
* Work collaboratively with project managers and engineers to meet delivery timelines
Service Engineer desired skills and experience:
* Proven background in mechanical and electrical engineering (multi-skilled or service-based)
* Understanding of pneumatic systems or willingness to develop knowledge
* Previous experience in technical, customer-facing roles — ideally within high-integrity or safety-critical industries
* Ability to work calmly, methodically, and independently in demanding environments
* Strong communication skills and the ability to instil trust with clients through technical confidence
* Willingness to travel regularly, including internationally and occasionally at short notice
* UK Citizenship is essential due to security vetting requirements
* Full UK driving licence and valid passport required
