Job Description

Field Service Engineer – Gates, Barriers & Security Systems Location: Around the Croydon area (field-based across London & South East, with occasional workshop days in Crawley) Salary: £35,000 basic + overtime + on-call allowance (OTE £45,000–£50,000+) Training provided | Career progression | Hands-on, varied field work Important: You must hold a British passport and have no criminal convictions as security clearance is required. The Role We’re working with a leading engineering business that designs, installs, and maintains physical security systems across the UK. They’re looking for a mechanically minded Field Service Engineer to join their team. Your time will be split between: Field service work – attending sites across London and the South East to install, service, and repair high-security systems (gates, barriers, blockers, turnstiles). Workshop fitting – supporting the Crawley workshop when field work is quieter, carrying out mechanical and electrical fitting/assembly tasks.Electrical knowledge isn’t essential, but if you can use a multi-meter to check voltages on motors or similar equipment, that’s a strong advantage. Please note: random drug and alcohol tests may be carried out on certain client sites. Why join? £35,000 base salary Overtime at 1.3x after 40 hours (weekdays) Uncapped overtime and weekend work available On-call rota with generous allowance (1-in-5) 22 days holiday + bank holidays (rising to 25 after 2 years) Company van (business use only), tools, PPE, phone and uniform provided Long-term progression with training on electrical/control systems once the core role is mastered What you’ll be doing Installing, servicing and repairing gates, barriers, blockers, and turnstiles Attending breakdowns and fault-finding/diagnostics Cutting induction loops into concrete/tarmac (training provided) Using mechanical skills daily – hands-on repairs and maintenance Completing electronic job sheets on tablet/smartphone Travelling across London and the South East (occasional overnight stays) Providing excellent customer service on-site What we’re looking for Strong mechanical background (essential), ideally from one of the following: Agricultural machinery maintenance Conveyor systems or material handling equipment Plant fitting or heavy equipment repairs Shift fitting in a factory Site-based equipment such as wheel washes Basic electrical knowledge (advantageous) – motors, multi-meters, 24v/240v systems Full UK driving licence (clean preferred) Physically fit and comfortable with outdoor/manual work (including confined spaces) Willing to travel, stay away occasionally, and take part in an on-call rota Able to pass a safety-critical medical and face-fit test (must be clean-shaven for P3 mask use) British passport and no criminal convictions (security clearance required) If you’re a hands-on engineer with a solid mechanical background looking for a field role with variety, apply today
