Job Summary
Lighthouse Accountancy Services is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance / Admin Assistant to assist with the smooth running of day to day operations, ensuring financial accuracy and efficiency in financial administration and reporting while working to tight deadlines.
This role is fully office based at our office in Shedfield, Hampshire.
You’ll be one of a close-knit team of two, working directly alongside the practice lead. This means your contributions will be visible, valued, and genuinely impactful. We will collaborate closely and share ideas freely, there are no layers of hierarchy, just purposeful work and mutual respect.
Duties
* Maintain and update financial records, including invoices, receipts, and payment records.
* Support the processing and checking of accounts payable and receivable transactions.
* Reconcile Bank Statements
* Assist with VAT and CIS Returns
* Assist with Payroll processing
* Assist with control account reconciliations and month-end closing procedure.
* Provide administrative support to the accountant including inbox and electronic file management.
Skills
* Strong numerical proficiency and attention to detail.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
* Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
* Experience using Sage and Xero would be an advantage but not essential
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with clients and their team members
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team in a fast-paced environment.
* Knowledge and understanding of basic accounting principles is essential.
* At least 3 years relevant experience

Lighthouse Accountancy Services provides financial management support to small to medium family businesses. From overseeing internal finance teams to delivering accurate and timely management accounts, we adapt our involvement to meet each client’s unique needs.
We also provide self assessment tax returns and support small limited companies with bookkeeping, payroll, VAT returns, and statutory filings.
We are entering a new chapter of growth, transitioning from sole practitioner to this being the first step in building a small team.
We’re not your typical accountancy firm. At our practice, we go beyond compliance and number-crunching—we act as outsourced finance managers, helping clients truly understand and steer their businesses.
This role would suit someone mid to late career who’s looking for meaningful, hands-on work in a supportive and flexible environment. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the numbers and the people behind them—without the pressure of climbing a traditional accountancy firm ladder.
This role would not suited to someone seeking progression within a mainstream practice. However, there is scope to develop into a management accountant role, with opportunities to deepen your involvement in the financial strategy, reporting, and client advisory work.
