Job Description

Are you an experienced finance professional with strong data modelling skills, looking to make a real impact in the public sector? This is a high-profile opportunity within a respected local authority finance service. You’ll take the lead in reshaping data forecasting and modelling for a substantial Adult Social Care provider spend, working alongside service specialists to ensure best value and support strategic priorities What’s on Offer?  Job type: Full time, Temporary 6 Months Location: Lewes Salary: £600+ per dayAbout the role: Maintain accurate monthly financial forecasts for Independent Sector Spend (approx.30% of the organisation’s total budget) Review and streamline existing financial models for greater usability and accessibility Develop scenario modelling to support annual and medium-term planning, incorporating demographic and other data Collaborate with Adult Social Care teams to ensure accurate data input into core systems Produce cost comparisons with other local authorities and complete statutory returns to government bodies Provide high-quality finance services, forecasts, advice, and professional challenge to budget managers Identify and manage financial risks, taking corrective action as required Recommend and implement process and system improvements to achieve best value Oversee accurate external reporting, account closing, and audit preparation Assist with finance system implementation and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements Represent the service at meetings, working groups, and project teams Contribute to organisational priorities including net zero, equality, diversity & inclusion, and maximising resourcesEssential qualifications & skills: AAT Level 4 (or equivalent) Strong analytical skills to interpret financial and non-financial data Ability to specify system data requirements Skilled communicator, able to explain technical finance issues clearly to non-finance colleagues Experience in service planning, quality monitoring, and implementing new initiatives Excellent workload management, meeting tight deadlines under pressure Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other IT applications Knowledge of public sector financial/accounting procedures and statutory requirements Experience in a financial environment Flexible, diplomatic, innovative, and self-motivatedDesirable: CCAB, CIMA, or overseas equivalent qualification. Experience using database packages.
