Job Description

Finishing Manager – School Refurbishment Project

Location: Horsham
Contract Type: Freelance
Start Date: 29th June

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Finishing Manager to join our team on a major school refurbishment project involving the renovation of 50+ student bedrooms and associated communal areas.

This is a key site-based role, responsible for driving the project through the final stages of construction, ensuring all works are completed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  * Manage and coordinate all finishing trades across the project.

  * Oversee quality control and ensure all works meet project specifications and client expectations.

  * Produce, monitor, and close out snagging lists.

  * Coordinate inspections with the client, consultants, and subcontractors.

  * Ensure bedrooms and communal areas are completed and handed over in line with programme milestones.

  * Monitor subcontractor performance and maintain productivity on site.

  * Ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements.

  * Work closely with the Project Manager and Site Manager to achieve successful project delivery.

  * Manage final commissioning, testing, and handover activities where required.

Requirements

  * Proven experience as a Finishing Manager on refurbishment or fit-out projects.

  * Strong knowledge of finishing trades and quality standards.

  * Experience managing snagging, defect resolution, and handovers.

  * Excellent organisational and communication skills.

  * Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  * Valid SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certification preferred.

  * Previous experience working within education, residential, student accommodation, or similar refurbishment environments would be advantageous.
