The Fire Alarm Service Engineer is responsible for the servicing, maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of fire detection and alarm systems in a range of commercial, industrial, and residential properties. This role plays a critical part in ensuring system reliability, safety compliance, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct routine servicing, maintenance, and testing of fire alarm systems to ensure they meet all required standards and regulations (e.g., BS 5839, NFPA 72).
*
Perform system diagnostics, fault finding, and emergency repairs on-site.
*
Modify existing fire alarm systems as required (e.g., panel upgrades, device replacement, wiring corrections).
*
Respond to service calls promptly, diagnose issues, and restore system functionality efficiently.
*
Provide technical support and advice to clients regarding system performance, upgrades, and compliance.
*
Ensure all work is completed to the highest quality and documented accurately.
*
Maintain and update service records, reports, and compliance documentation.
*
Liaise with contractors, building managers, and other engineers as necessary.
*
Stay current with applicable standards, industry practices, and manufacturer training.
Qualifications and Skills:
*
Proven experience in servicing and maintaining fire alarm systems (minimum 2–3 years preferred).
*
Strong working knowledge of systems such as:
Notifier, Gent, Advanced, Morley, Kentec, Apollo, Hochiki, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar.
*
Familiarity with emergency lighting, smoke ventilation, or other life safety systems is advantageous.
*
Knowledge of BS 5839
*
Valid ECS card / CSCS card or relevant trade qualifications
*
FIA Units 1–5 or equivalent certifications
*
Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
*
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
*
Full, clean driving licence.
*
Ability to work independently and manage multiple jobs per day.
Additional Requirements:
*
Participate in on-call rota for out-of-hours service response.
*
Willingness to travel to various client sites, sometimes at short notice.
*
Ability to pass background checks and security clearances for sensitive sites.
