About the Role:
YMCA Reading is seeking a dynamic, proactive, and organised Food and Beverage Manager to oversee management of all catering at YMCA Reading, including our newly refurbished coffee shop. In this key role, you’ll oversee daily operations, deliver excellent customer service, and ensure our coffee shop consistently maintains the highest standards. You’ll also play an important part in promoting the coffee shop, driving sales, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for the community
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Oversee the daily running of the coffee shop, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for all service users. This role includes lone working and will include some evening, weekend and bank holidays work
* Prepare, produce, and serve food and beverages to YMCA Reading’s brand standards and recipes.
* Maintain health, safety, and cleanliness standards, including risk assessments and ensure compliance with Food Standards Agency regulations and maintain YMCA Reading’s 5-star food hygiene rating.
* Manage financial responsibilities: recording takings, meeting targets, handling cash budgets and forecasts, completing KPIs, and reporting to the CEO.
* Develop and implement an approved marketing strategy, including outreach activities, events, and open days.
* Manage stock control, ordering, replenishment, and inventory checks.
* Respond to customer feedback to maintain YMCA Reading’s excellent community reputation.
* Responsible for servicing, cleaning and standards of cleanliness. Coordinate contractor service checks and liaise with the maintenance and health & safety teams.
* Support YMCA events, resident activities, and fundraising initiatives.
What we’re looking for:
You’ll be confident working independently, with a focus on customer service and satisfaction.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
* Ability to work effectively as a valued member of the YMCA Reading team, engaging with young people, children, and the wider community to understand and meet their needs.
* Experience in preparing and presenting food in a commercial catering setting to a high standard.
* Strong administrative and management skills in line with the role’s responsibilities.
* Outstanding customer service skills and a passion for delivering memorable coffee shop or café experiences.
* Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and online food ordering platforms.
Role Details
* 37.5 hours per week 8am - 4pm
* The role involves lone working and will include some evening, weekend and bank holiday work.
