Job Title: Environmental Health Officer – Food Safety Team
Location: Lewisham
Employment Type: Full time
Rate: £30.88 per hour PAYE

One of our clients is seeking a motivated and experienced Environmental Health Officer to join their Food Safety Team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in protecting public health by ensuring food businesses comply with legislative requirements and best practices in food safety.
As an integral member of the Environmental Health team, you will conduct inspections, investigations, and assessments, and work collaboratively with businesses and the community to promote safe food handling and hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct routine and follow-up inspections of food businesses in accordance with the Food Act and relevant guidelines.
* Investigate food complaints, foodborne illness outbreaks, and breaches of food safety legislation.
* Provide advice, education, and support to food business operators on compliance and best practice.
* Prepare accurate inspection reports, improvement notices, and enforcement documentation where necessary.
* Participate in food safety education campaigns and local health promotion initiatives.
* Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with council policies and legislative requirements.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is passionate about public health, detail-oriented, and confident working independently and within a team. You will have:
* A recognised qualification in Environmental Health (or equivalent degree eligible for EHA accreditation).
* Sound knowledge of the Food Act 1984, Food Standards Code, and related legislation.
* Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
* A current UK driver’s licence.
* (Desirable) Experience working in local government or a regulatory environment.
