Become a Step Forward Foster Carer – A Life-Changing Opportunity for Care Home Managers
Foster with TACT Fostering and Bury Council
Are you a Care Home Manager who has dedicated your career to supporting others through compassion, structure, and stability? You already have the leadership, empathy, and resilience needed to make a lasting impact in a young person’s life.
We are looking for experienced, nurturing professionals like you to become Step Forward Foster Carers — offering a safe, consistent home to a young person transitioning from residential care. This is your opportunity to use the skills you’ve developed managing care settings and create a future full of hope for a young person who needs you most.
What is Step Forward Fostering?
Step Forward Fostering is a pioneering project that supports young people who have faced trauma, instability, and loss by helping them move from residential care into a safe, family-based home.
These young people aren’t just looking for shelter — they need someone like you: a steady, supportive adult who understands complex needs, provides structure, and can build trust over time.
As a Step Forward Foster Carer, you’ll be supported by a professional team every step of the way. You’ll never be alone on this journey.
What You’ll Receive:
We understand the responsibility that comes with supporting a young person with complex needs. That’s why we offer a full package of emotional, practical, and financial support.
Specialist Support:
Your own Senior Practitioner offering regular supervision and guidance
A Family Wellbeing Worker to support you and the child in your care
A Hub Carer providing up to 28 days of planned short breaks each year
24/7 Out-of-Hours Support
Peer support through a network of other Step Forward Carers
Ongoing trauma-informed training and neurodevelopmental learning
Access to therapeutic and psychological support
Financial Package:
We recognise the time and dedication it takes to foster and offer a generous package so you can focus on providing the best care possible.
£1,052 per week while a young person is placed with you (around £54,704 per year)
£408 per week retainer between placements (up to £21,216 annually)
Extra allowances for birthdays, holidays, and cultural celebrations
Access to tax exemptions designed for foster carers
