Job Description
Freelance Building Surveyor – PFI Schools Handback (Outside IR35)
Location: Stoke-on-Trent (with site visits)
Rate: Competitive day rate (Outside IR35)
Duration: 6–9 months
Start: ASAP
We are currently recruiting for a freelance Building Surveyor to support a major PFI schools handback programme in the Stoke area. This is a varied and flexible role, offering the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of technical and project-related work across multiple school sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Support and oversee condition surveys across the estate, ensuring compliance with handback requirements
Manage and interpret survey data, working closely with the client team to validate findings and develop strategic advice
Assist in the management of refurbishment and PFI-related projects, including fire safety works and other lifecycle-driven schemes
Liaise with stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to help ensure smooth project delivery
Monitor quality on site and provide regular progress updatesRequirements:
Proven experience as a Building Surveyor in a public sector, education, or PFI environment
Strong technical knowledge and understanding of building condition surveys
Comfortable working with data and reporting to support strategic decision-making
Ability to manage and coordinate multiple workstreams across different sites
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skillsThis is a 6–9 month contract, with potential for extension, and falls outside IR35. It offers a great opportunity to join a high-profile programme at a critical stage, with scope to add real value across multiple projects.
