Job Description
Gleeson has partnered with a Project Freight Forwarder to recruit a Compliance Officer for a high-impact role based in Bristol.
They're looking for a Compliance Officer to manage daily compliance tasks like policies, audits, and risk assessments and support certifications and continuous improvement. You'll report to the Head of Compliance and have room to grow in the role.
Job Title: Compliance Officer ( Transport & Freight )
Location: Bristol
Salary : £35,000 - 45,000 + Bonus
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and update company policies, SOPs and document libraries.
Deliver SOP briefings and record staff confirmations.
Manage digital records for insurance and fleet documentation.
Ensure training logs and compliance records are accurate and audit-ready.
Lead risk assessments across drivers, vehicles, facilities and projects
Review and update the Business Continuity Plan and run readiness exercises.
Support near-miss and incident investigations.
Deliver internal audits in line with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Monitor vehicle inspections and maintenance schedules.
Conduct spot checks in line with Working Time Directive requirements.
Support the annual compliance programme and accreditation evidence packs.
Support compliance activities connected to frameworks - Projects
Coordinate supplier/third-party compliance assessments and follow-up actions.
Maintain the customer compliance register (insurance, bank validation, security clearance).
Ensure documentation meets customer and regulatory standards.
Conduct training needs analysis and maintain training matrices/expiry trackers.
Experience & Qualifications
Experience in a compliance role within logistics, transport, defence or Aerospace.
Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, with hands-on internal auditing experience.
Experience ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus and Defence Cyber Certification
Experience with Drivers UK / EU
Awareness of Aviation Security for freight operation
Strong Excel ability for dashboards, trackers, and reporting.
Clear communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
