Full-Time French Teacher Required - Leading Independent Portsmouth School (September 2025 Start - Key Stage 3, 4 & 5 Essential)
Our leading independent school in the historic city of Portsmouth seeks a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Teacher of French to join our thriving MFL department and make a profound difference to the linguistic proficiency, cultural understanding, and communicative confidence of our students across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and, crucially, Key Stage 5, commencing in September 2025.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Planning, preparing, and delivering highly effective and stimulating French lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs and aspirations of our students across all key stages, from foundational grammar to complex literary analysis.
* Fostering students' deep understanding of key linguistic structures, vocabulary, and cultural contexts, with a strong emphasis on the comprehensive demands of the A-Level specifications.
* Encouraging rigorous development of all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, preparing students for real-world communication and academic success.
* Assessing and tracking student progress in French across all key stages, providing insightful and constructive feedback, and implementing effective intervention strategies to ensure strong outcomes, particularly for A-Level students.
* Contributing actively to the development, implementation, and rigorous review of the French curriculum across all key stages, ensuring alignment with examination specifications and providing extensive opportunities for cultural enrichment.
* Utilising and contributing to the development of high-quality French resources, including authentic texts, multimedia, and digital learning platforms.
* Contributing to extracurricular activities that promote French language and culture within the school community (e.g., French club, cultural events, trips abroad).
* Collaborating effectively with colleagues within the MFL department and across the wider school to foster a rich and interdisciplinary learning environment.
* Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice and keep abreast of current developments in French language education and Francophone culture, with a strong focus on A-Level teaching and assessment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
* A degree in French or a closely related highly relevant field, with native or near-native fluency.
* Successful and demonstrable experience teaching French across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE), and, crucially, A-Level.
* A strong and up-to-date understanding of the A-Level French curriculum and relevant examination specifications.
* Exceptional pedagogical skills and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, particularly the academic rigour and depth required at Key Stage 5.
* A profound passion for French language and culture and the ability to inspire and stretch students' linguistic and analytical skills.
* Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
* A steadfast commitment to the safeguarding and well-being of students and the promotion of language learning within our vibrant Portsmouth community.
