Job Description

Functional Skills Tutor - North Yorkshire (Immediate Start Available)

Tradewind Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with North Yorkshire LEA to recruit a committed and adaptable Functional Skills Tutor to deliver English and Maths support across the region, including Northallerton, Ripon, Harrogate, and surrounding areas.

This is a rewarding and flexible opportunity to make a real difference, supporting young people who require additional help to re-engage with education. Many learners may have SEND, SEMH needs, or be looked after, meaning your role will extend beyond teaching-you'll play a key part in rebuilding confidence, re-establishing routines, and inspiring meaningful progress.

What the Role Involves:

Delivering Functional Skills English and Maths sessions tailored to individual learners (1:1 or small group)
Planning and adapting personalised lessons to meet a wide range of abilities and learning styles
Supporting students with additional needs, ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
Monitoring, assessing, and recording learner progress, with clear and consistent feedback
Promoting positive learning behaviours, attendance, and engagement
Building strong, supportive relationships with learners, families, and external professionals

We're Looking For Someone Who:

Holds a teaching qualification (QTS desirable) or has relevant tutoring/TA experience
Has experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, or similar needs
Is confident delivering both English and Maths Functional Skills
Demonstrates resilience, empathy, and the ability to adapt their approach to suit individual learners
Holds an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or is willing to obtain one)
