Functional Tester
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Functional Tester to join a government programme focused on biometric matching technology. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a highly secure, business-critical system where you will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing automated tests against complex backend services.
As the solution has no user interface, you will be testing directly through web services and APIs, creating comprehensive test scenarios, input messages, and expected outputs to validate biometric workflows and matching capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and execute automated tests for biometric workflows and matching services.
Create and maintain test scripts for backend web service testing.
Construct test inputs, messages, and expected outputs across a wide variety of scenarios.
Automate the generation of test data and test inputs to improve delivery efficiency.
Perform both functional and non-functional testing, including performance and operability testing.
Analyse test results, identify defects, and work closely with development teams to resolve issues.
Maintain accurate test artefacts and reporting within agreed tooling and processes.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience in functional testing and test automation.
Experience testing backend systems, APIs, or web services where no UI is available.
Strong understanding of test design techniques and scenario creation.
Experience creating automated test inputs and validating expected outcomes.
Exposure to both functional and non-functional testing methodologies.
Desirable Skills
Test automation and scripting.
SOAP UI
JMeter
Jira
Zephyr
XML
SOAP Web Services
Experience working within government or highly regulated environments.
