Job role / duties
•Train and mentor the team to ensure high levels ok knowledge and skills
•Monitor and report on performance to highlight areas of training needed
•Engage with the recruitment process and carry out inductions
•Oversee and participate in the plant breeding process such as controlled pollination, seed germination, propagation and trial assessments.
•Ensure all plant care operations
•Support assessments and data collection on new hybrids and report to SMT
•Monitor both glasshouse & field environments to maintain biosecurity and IPM protocol
•Ensure the safe operation of machinery and equipment
•Maintain accurate records of all breeding activity and progress
•Identify issues affecting plant health and report on cause
To be considered for this role you MUST:
•Possess a Horticultural qualification
•Possess experience of team leader / supervision in a plant breeding, horticulture, or nursery environment
•Have a good understanding propagation, greenhouse & field management, and integrated pest management
•Be highly organised and have excellent record keeping skills
•Ideally possess PA1 / PA6 spraying licences and tractor or telehandler licence
•Hold a full clean driving licence
