ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Tuition is delivered during school hours and can take place in the students home or online, depending on availability and individual circumstances. Youll plan and deliver structured lessons mapped to the GCSE curriculum, adapting pace and approach to each learners needs. Prospero Teaching will work closely with you to monitor progress and ensure positive outcomes.
CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS
Location: Oldham and surrounding areas
Position: GCSE Tutor Maths & English
Type of work: One-to-one tuition (home-based or online, depending on availability)
Full time/part time: Part-time up to 20 hours per week during school time
Minimum rate of pay: £25 per hour (starting rate)
Session Lengths: Flexible typically 1 to 3 hours per session
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and deliver high-quality GCSE Maths and English lessons tailored to individual learning needs and target grades.
Diagnose learning gaps and create focused intervention plans to improve outcomes.
Teach and reinforce exam techniques (timing, command words, mark schemes) and revision strategies (spaced practice, retrieval, past papers).
Track and record progress against agreed goals; provide clear, constructive feedback to parents/carers and relevant professionals.
Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and needs, including learners with mild SEN or anxiety.
Maintain consistent communication and punctuality; uphold safeguarding and professional standards at all times.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
Minimum 1 year of experience teaching or tutoring GCSE Maths or English.
Strong knowledge of GCSE specifications
Ability to plan personalised schemes of work and set measurable targets.
Desirable (not essential):
QTS, QTLS, PGCE or equivalent.
Experience supporting learners with SEN (e.g., Autism, ADHD, SEMH) in 1:1 settings.
Up-to-date Safeguarding training (can be provided via Prospero CPD).
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:
Hold Right to Work in the UK.
Hold an Enhanced DBS (child workforce) registered on the Update Service, or be willing to process a new application.
Provide two professional, child-related references covering the last two years.
Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to safeguarding and best-practice tutoring.
