Generator Service Engineer (264jc) – Dumbarton – up to £42k + Benefits

My client who is in the power generation sector is expanding and is seeking an additional engineer who can maintain, diagnose, and repair diesel generators ranging from 20kVA to 2000kVA across Scotland and just over the border into Northen England. The work is varied, mission-focused, and suited to individuals who are used to working to high standards, often independently, with clear responsibility for outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Planned maintenance, inspection and repair of generators and associated control systems
* Fault diagnosis on engines and power equipment on-site and in the workshop
* Use of engine diagnostic software (full training provided)
* Support with mechanical/electrical installation and commissioning
* Load testing and operational readiness checks
* Participation in a 1-in-4 standby rota
* Maintaining toolkit, vehicle stock, and accurate documentation
* Working safely and professionally at all times
What Fits Well for Veterans
* Experience from REME, Royal Engineers, RAF or RN engineering branches aligns strongly
* Familiarity with diesel engines, fault-finding and working autonomously
* Ability to follow technical procedures and maintain high safety standards
* Strong work ethic and clear communication
* Apprenticeship-qualified engineers (C&G, NVQ, SVQ etc.) are ideal
Requirements
* Mechanical/electrical engineering experience (generator knowledge is an advantage)
* Understanding of control systems (DeepSea/ComAp/Dief beneficial)
* Full UK driving licence
* Own tools
* Able to pass an annual Basic Disclosure check
* Experience: 4+ years engineering, 1+ year field service
In return they are offering a starting salary circa £40 – 42k, with an average of about 5 hrs Overtime per week on a standard 39 hr week, company pension scheme as well as ongoing job-specific training and development as well as a company vehicle, phone and IT you will need for the role.
The ideal candidate would be live within a reasonable commute of Dumbarton, so the central belt of Scotland would be ideal, as you will need to go to the HQ on a weekly basis to collect all the sundries you will need to be using on a weekly basis.
