This role sits within a leading water and environmental division delivering expertise across the full project lifecycle-from strategy and planning through detailed design, construction support, and site supervision.
The team works on a diverse range of projects, including river restoration, natural flood management, and water infrastructure planning, placing a strong emphasis on sustainability, nature-based solutions, and working with natural processes.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Geomorphologist at Principal, Associate, or Senior Associate level (depending on experience) to support and lead a range of river and catchment-focused projects.
This role is particularly well-suited to candidates with a strong background in fluvial geomorphology, who are passionate about understanding and applying river processes to deliver sustainable environmental and engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Provide technical geomorphological input on river and catchment-based projects, with a focus on fluvial systems.
Lead and support river restoration, natural flood management, and habitat enhancement schemes.
Conduct and oversee field surveys assessing channel morphology, sediment transport, erosion risk, and river condition.
Develop and review erosion risk assessments and sediment management strategies.
Contribute to environmental assessments, especially hydro-morphological components and Water Framework Directive compliance.
Apply innovative data collection and analysis techniques, including GIS, remote sensing, and geomorphological modelling.
Mentor junior team members and contribute to capability development within the team.
Liaise with clients, attend project meetings, and represent the organisation at industry eventsRequirements
Essential:
A degree in physical geography, geomorphology, environmental science, catchment science, or a closely related discipline.
Chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution.
Strong experience in fluvial geomorphology, including fieldwork, data interpretation, and design integration.
In-depth knowledge of river processes and their application in environmental and infrastructure contexts.
Familiarity with UK environmental legislation and water-related regulatory frameworks.
Strong collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills.Desirable:
Additional expertise in sediment modelling, aquatic ecology, or integrated catchment management.
Enthusiasm for sustainable solutions and innovation in river management.Salary and Grade Flexibility

Salary is flexible based on experience. If your expectations exceed £70k but are within reason, please still reach out for a confidential discussion.
