Milk Education is working closely with secondary schools across Wakefield and South Leeds who are seeking Behaviour Mentors / Teaching Assistants to work with students who require additional support to succeed. These roles are ideal for graduates or individuals with youth work, mentoring, or care backgrounds who are considering a future career in education, psychology, or pastoral support.
As a Behaviour Mentor / Teaching Assistant, you’ll support students in and out of the classroom—helping to improve engagement, promote positive behaviour, and support emotional wellbeing. You’ll work 1:1 or in small groups with pupils who may have social, emotional, or behavioural needs, and contribute to creating a calm and safe learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide targeted behaviour and learning support to students, either 1:1 or in small groups
Assist teaching staff in managing classroom behaviour and promoting positive engagement
Build strong relationships with students to act as a positive role model and mentor
Help implement behaviour plans and intervention strategies developed by pastoral or SEN teams
Support students with emotional regulation, confidence-building, and social interaction
Contribute to a positive, inclusive school environment and support the school’s safeguarding ethos
Liaise with teaching and pastoral teams to share progress and concerns as needed

Criminology or Sociology

Art, Drama or Creative Therapies

Key Requirements:
A degree or relevant Level 3 qualification is desirable
A strong interest in working with young people in a school or support setting
Confidence in managing behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
Experience working with children or teenagers (formal or informal)
Two professional references from the last two years
A willingness to undertake training and ongoing development
