Your First Year: Classroom Experience

You will begin your journey working in a secondary school as a Cover Supervisor, where you will gain valuable insight into day-to-day school life.

In this role, you will:

Lead lessons using materials already prepared by teaching staff
Support students to stay engaged and complete their work
Manage behaviour and maintain a focused learning environment
Work alongside teachers and pastoral teams to support student development
This stage is designed to build your confidence—there is no requirement for lesson planning or marking.

Your Second Year: Teacher Training

Following a successful first year, you will move into a salaried teacher training position within the same school or trust.

During this stage, you will:

Train towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Receive ongoing mentoring and structured support
Gradually take on teaching responsibilities
Have the opportunity to complete a PGCE alongside your training
This ensures a smooth transition from classroom experience into a fully qualified teaching role.
