What is the Future Teachers Programme?
This structured two-year route is designed to support passionate graduates who want to become qualified teachers but are looking to gain experience before committing to formal training. It provides:
Year 1: Classroom Experience (Cover Supervisor Role)
A full academic year working in a secondary school in Cambridge
Supervision of pre-set lessons during teacher absences
A chance to build confidence in managing a class and supporting student learning
No planning or marking—focus is on engagement, behaviour management, and learning support
Year 2: Salaried Teacher Training
A direct transition into a salaried Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme with the same school or trust
Structured mentorship from experienced staff while you work towards QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
Continued classroom responsibility and a salary as you train on the job
The ability to gain your PGCE while remaining in a familiar and supportive school environment
