Job Description

Ground Maintenance Location: Llanfoist Household Waste Recycling Centre, Abergavenny, NP7 9AQ Start Date: ASAP Contract Duration: 2+  Months Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week Pay Rate: £12.85 per hour  Job Ref: OR12359 Job Responsibilities Maintain public open spaces, verges, planting, schools, and contracted sites to provide a quality green and sustainable environment. Undertake grounds maintenance activities and work as part of a street services team when required. Maintain safe working practices for self and others in accordance with the Council’s Safe Working Practices and Health and Safety Policy. Comply with relevant legislation in relation to Health and Safety. Carry out your role in a polite and orderly manner. Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade of post if the relevant training has been provided. Possess a clean and current driving licence (and HGV licence if applicable). Undertake any training required to perform your role safely and effectively. Abide by the principles and practices of Equal Opportunities as laid down within the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy. Work within the Annualised hours scheme, working 43 hours per week from March through to October and 37 hours per week from November to March. Accumulated hours to be taken as leave between November and March. Respond to emergencies (including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays) as instructed by management, including instances such as flooding, snow, and storms. Participate in a standby rota for emergency response. Perform grass cutting activities using both handheld and ride-on equipment. Assist with grave digging and cemetery-related tasks when suitable training has been provided. Maintain horticultural features, including shrub beds and areas of annual bedding. Carry out the marking and maintenance of various sports facilities. Undertake landscaping of open spaces and arboriculture work. Empty litter bins and carry out litter picking in open spaces, verges, and hard surfaces. Respond to fly-tipping service requests, ensuring the correct process is followed for evidence collation. Ensure vehicles are kept clean and that daily safety inspections are carried out. Ensure all plant and machinery is used in accordance with manufacturers' advice and instructions. Collect waste as part of the bank holiday rota, only when the operative has indicated a willingness to be included in the rota for Waste. Abide by all Health and Safety legislation and codes of practice to ensure your own safety and that of your colleagues. Person Specifications Hold a clean driving licence. Have related experience within a similar environment as described within this role. Have a good understanding of Health and Safety issues and the ability to abide by the Authority’s agreed policies and procedures. Have experience and be able to work as part of a team. Be able to work without close supervision. Be self-motivated. Have pride in the quality of your work to ensure a quality service is provided. Possess good communication skills. Have a willingness to undertake any relevant training. Be flexible and able to work outside the core hours to meet the needs of the service when required, including covering Bank Holidays. Welsh language skills are desirable.
