Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Operative
Location: Abergavenney - NP7 9AQ
Salary: £12.21 per hour
Our client is recruiting a number of grounds maintenance operatives for the summer season.
Job Purpose:
To carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance and environmental services across open spaces, cemeteries, schools, and other designated areas. This role involves working both independently and as part of a team to ensure outdoor environments are clean, safe, and well-maintained for public use.
Key Responsibilities:
*
Carry out grass cutting operations using handheld and ride-on equipment across parks, schools, cemeteries, and public spaces.
*
Assist with grave digging and related cemetery duties (subject to appropriate training and certification).
*
Maintain horticultural features including shrub beds and annual bedding areas.
*
Mark out and maintain sports pitches and other recreational facilities.
*
Undertake landscaping and planting activities in open spaces.
*
Perform arboriculture-related tasks as required.
*
Empty litter bins and carry out litter picking duties on verges, hard surfaces, and open spaces (both scheduled and reactive).
*
Respond to fly-tipping reports, following correct procedures for evidence collection and reporting.
*
Carry out daily vehicle checks and ensure vehicles are kept clean and roadworthy.
*
Operate and maintain machinery and tools in line with manufacturer’s instructions and safety guidelines.
*
Support other council services where appropriate and as required, within the scope of the role.
Person Specification:
Essential:
*
Experience or willingness to work in grounds maintenance or a similar outdoor role
*
Ability to operate machinery safely (training will be provided if necessary)
*
Basic understanding of Health and Safety requirements
*
Good physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions
*
Team player with a positive attitude
*
Willingness to undertake training as required
Desirable:
*
Previous experience in grave digging, horticulture, or arboriculture
*
Experience in using ride-on mowers or other grounds maintenance equipment
*
Full UK driving licence
Additional Information:
*
This role may include weekend or out-of-hours work as part of a rota or in response to urgent requests.
*
