Job Description

About Us How do we build a better future for our communities? We start by investing in our people. At The Calico Group, we believe learning isn’t just about training; it’s about helping people grow, feel confident, and make a real difference every day. Whether it’s supporting someone to take their next step, helping teams work better together, or making services safer and stronger, learning is at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to work in communities across the North West, and even prouder of the people who make it happen. We welcome different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences, because that’s how we learn, and that’s how we grow. Group Business Services (GBS) supports our group of charities and businesses with expert services such as HR, Finance, Media and Communications, IT, and Governance. Our Talent & Development Team leads the way in creating learning that’s practical, inclusive, and focused on what matters most: helping people do their best work and deliver great outcomes for customers. The Opportunity We’re looking for a values-led Group Talent & Development Manager to lead our passionate team and shape how learning happens across Calico. This is a senior leadership role with real influence. You’ll manage a talented team of specialists and work closely with senior leaders across the Group to build the skills, behaviours, and culture we need to deliver our ambitions, now and into the future. You’ll play a key role in shaping our Corporate Plan for 2026–2029, ensuring learning and talent are central to how we grow, adapt, and improve services for our customers. From leadership development and succession planning to digital learning transformation, you’ll lead the way in creating practical, inclusive solutions that help people do their best work. You’ll also oversee our learning infrastructure, making sure our systems are accessible, our programmes are outcome-focused, and our data tells a clear story about impact. Whether it’s supporting safer services, improving customer experience, or helping colleagues take their next step, you’ll be at the heart of how we build capability and culture across Calico. Every day, you’ll be helping people learn, lead, and thrive, and making sure our organisation is ready for whatever comes next. For further information about the role, please visit the Role Profile. What We’re Looking For We believe in recruiting for potential as well as experience. Our ideal candidate will have: Essential: * A relevant L&D qualification. * Experience leading multi-disciplinary L&D or OD teams in complex, regulated environments. * Strong track record of designing and delivering learning and leadership programmes. * Skilled in using data and evaluation models to measure impact and guide decisions. * Excellent communication and influencing skills across all levels. * Knowledge of adult learning theory, inclusive design, and digital learning platforms. * Understanding of regulatory compliance in learning (e.g. CQC, Housing Regulator). Desirable: * CIPD Level 5 or 7. * Coaching or mentoring accreditation. * Experience with SCORM, Articulate 360, Vyond, and LMS platforms. * Familiarity with Apprenticeship Levy governance and ESFA compliance. * Experience working across multiple sites and services. If you share our values and are ready to grow through continuous learning, development, and the support of a dedicated team, we want to hear from you! What’s in It for You? At The Calico Group, we value our people and offer a supportive, inclusive culture alongside fantastic benefits: * Bravo Benefits – Discounts at high street brands and restaurants * Westfield Health – Company-funded cash plan with 24/7 doctor access * Mental Health Support – Emotional and well-being services through Spectrum * Cycle to Work Scheme – Save on commuting costs while staying active * Pension Options – With employer contributions * Life Assurance – Peace of mind for you and your loved ones * Financial Advice – Expert guidance to help manage your finances * Recognition Awards – Celebrate your achievements * Learning & Development – Programmes focused on your growth * Gym Membership Discounts – Stay fit with local gym access * One Calico Events – Connect and unwind at employee social gatherings * Paid Professional Fees – We’ll cover the cost of your professional subscriptions And much more, including enhanced holidays, sickness, maternity, and paternity options.
