We are looking for an experienced Group Transport Manager to join our client's team (Frank-Key Builders Merchants)
Take responsibility for ensuring that the transport operation is safe, compliant, efficient, and cost-effective across all branches of the Group.
Reporting to the Group Operations Manager, this role is central to how we deliver to customers while maintaining the highest standards of service and compliance.The Role of Group Transport Manager within Frank Key Builders Merchants
As Group Transport Manager, you will:
Hold and maintain the company's O Licence, ensuring we remain compliant with Operator Licence regulations and Traffic Commissioner requirements.
Oversee the legal compliance of all vehicles, drivers, and lifting equipment, ensuring they are always licensed, serviced, taxed, insured, and defect-free.
Manage the Vehicle Management System (VMS) and keep all fleet and lifting equipment records up to date.
Take ownership of the transport budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings, managing fuel procurement, and developing the digitalisation of our transport function and approach.
Lead on RTC accident/incident investigations, working with insurers, analysing trends, and putting preventative measures in place.
Oversee & ensure central routing is efficient, minimising lost runs and maximising vehicle utilisation.
Oversee recruitment and training of drivers, ensuring all qualifications, digital tachograph requirements, and safety training are up to date.
Manage vehicle acquisitions and disposals, ensuring they are fit for purpose and cost-effective.Key Responsibilities of Group Transport Manager:
Ensure the business always remains legally compliant.
Drive efficiency in routing, fuel use, and fleet utilisation.
Deliver high standards of driver performance, safety, and training.
Manage customer complaints and service escalations where transport is involved.
Track and report on KPIs including vehicle checks, utilisation rates, on-time deliveries, driver efficiency, and incident analysis.About You - What Frank Key are looking for in their next Group Transport Manager:
Frank Key Builders Merchants are looking for someone who can balance compliance, safety, and operational efficiency while leading a team with confidence. To succeed in this Group Transport Manager position, you will have:
A Transport Manager CPC - Standard Level minimum (O Licence qualification).
Relevant CPD certificates to support qualification if over 5 years old.
Proven experience in managing transport operations, ideally within a builders' merchant, logistics, or distribution environment.
Strong knowledge of compliance, tachograph regulations, vehicle maintenance, and fleet management.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence, train, and support branch managers and drivers.
A results-driven approach with experience of managing budgets, analysing costs, and implementing cost-saving measures.
Strong problem-solving skills, particularly around routing, incidents, and customer service challenges.What our client offers
