We are looking for a Head of Art to work within a thriving independent school based in Plymouth, Devon.

We are seeking an inspiring and visionary Head of Art to join a well-established and forward-thinking independent school in Plymouth from September. This is a full-time and permanent leadership role offering a unique opportunity to build upon an already successful department and lead a team of creative and skilled practitioners.
The successful candidate will be responsible for curriculum development, examination success at GCSE and A-Level, and overseeing the provision of fine art, photography, and digital design. You will also curate student exhibitions, contribute to the broader creative life of the school, and work closely with the senior leadership team to promote creativity and innovation across all year groups.
This is a role for someone who is both highly creative and well-organised, capable of nurturing individual student expression while also ensuring academic rigour and technical excellence. The school places great emphasis on enrichment and co-curricular engagement, so you will also be encouraged to run clubs, workshops, and community-facing art events.
Experience and Qualifications
• Art degree and teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent)
• Significant experience teaching up to A-Level, with a proven record of exam success
• Previous experience leading or supporting a department desirable
• High-level portfolio of personal and/or student work
• Ability to work collaboratively and foster an inclusive, creative environment
• Right to work in the UK
