We are looking for a Head of Art to work within a prestigious independent school based in Plymouth, Devon.
Head of Art required from September 2025 – Full-Time, Permanent
Highly successful school with outstanding Art provision and creative vision
Experienced Art Teacher or existing Head of Department with strong leadership and innovation
A leading independent day and boarding school in Plymouth is seeking an exceptional Head of Art from September 2025 to lead their established and innovative Art department. The successful candidate will oversee the strategic direction of the subject, lead a team of specialist teachers and technicians, and ensure the continued success of both academic and co-curricular art provision.
The school boasts a fully equipped art centre with studios dedicated to fine art, ceramics, photography, and digital design. Pupils regularly exhibit their work both locally and nationally, and the school maintains strong links with art colleges, universities, and regional galleries.
You will lead the delivery of GCSE and A-Level Art & Design, ensure high standards of teaching and learning, and foster an atmosphere of creativity and experimentation. A willingness to contribute to whole-school life and artistic events is essential.
Experience and Qualifications
• Art degree and QTS or strong independent school background
• Experience teaching Art to A-Level
• Previous leadership or departmental responsibility desirable
• Ability to inspire and stretch the most able students
• Right to work in the UK
