Job Description

I am recruiting for a Head of Business Development role within a leading education technology provider. This role is pivotal in expanding the client base, increasing market share, and driving revenue growth within the education sector. The successful candidate will bring strategic thinking, innovation, and a strong network within educational institutions to build long-term partnerships and shape the organisation’s footprint across the UK & Ireland. Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning & Market Analysis Develop and execute business development strategies to achieve revenue and margin targets. Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and competitive threats in the education technology space. Align business development activities with the organisation’s overall strategic objectives. Client Acquisition & Relationship Management Build and maintain relationships with prospective educational clients, understanding their needs and offering tailored technology solutions. Present proposals and solutions effectively, ensuring smooth transitions from lead generation to contract finalisation. Act as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders within schools, colleges, and education authorities. Revenue Growth & Financial Management Identify and secure new revenue streams through strategic partnerships and initiatives. Monitor financial performance, assess business development effectiveness, and implement data-driven adjustments. Negotiate contracts to maximise profitability while delivering value to clients. Team Engagement & Collaboration Work cross-functionally with sales, marketing, bids, technical, and support teams to deliver exceptional client outcomes. Provide thought leadership and strategic guidance to colleagues to help build and develop new opportunities. Report progress, performance, and opportunities to Senior Management regularly. Brand Representation & Industry Presence Represent the organisation at industry events, conferences, and trade shows to strengthen brand visibility and reputation. Contribute expertise to webinars, panels, and digital publications. Build a strong network of industry leaders, influencers, and partners within the education sector. Personal Attributes Strategic thinker with a forward-looking, growth-focused mindset. Highly motivated, results-driven, and adaptable to fast-paced environments. Strong interpersonal skills, capable of inspiring and influencing teams and stakeholders. Experience & Qualifications Deep understanding of the education technology sector, including digital learning solutions, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, and support services. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, able to convey technical solutions in clear, non-technical language. Strong negotiation, contract management, and business development expertise. Proficiency with CRM and sales analytics platforms. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s or MBA preferred). 5+ years’ experience in business development, sales, or similar roles within education technology. Proven track record of achieving or exceeding revenue/margin targets and building strong client relationships. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Annual revenue and sales growth. Number and value of new client contracts secured. Customer satisfaction (e.g., NPS). Expansion into new educational markets and growth in market share. Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary up to £65k, with uncapped performance-based earnings. Company car or allowance.
