We're recruiting for a Head of Category to lead a major portfolio within a high-impact private sector organisation. Someone with the confidence, commercial acumen, and people leadership to deliver real change in a complex, fast-paced environment. Combining the speed and agility of the private sector with the purpose and scale of public sector-aligned delivery.
What you'll be doing:
Own and drive category strategy: Lead end-to-end sourcing across a mix of categories (including indirects, estates and more), creating strategies that maximise value, ensure compliance, and promote innovation.
Build deep stakeholder relationships: Work across commercial, operational and wider teams - from senior leadership to frontline delivery, aligning procurement activity with organisational goals.
Lead high-value negotiations: Take charge of major supplier negotiations and commercial partnerships, delivering best-in-class outcomes.
Develop and inspire a team: Manage a talented team of category managers and buyers, creating a culture of accountability, curiosity, and results.
Navigate risk and complexity: Use data, market insight, and sound judgement to manage risk, identify opportunity, and future-proof sourcing strategies.
Drive strategic collaboration: Work cross-functionally with teams to embed procurement into wider business decisions.What we're looking for:
A commercially driven procurement professional with experience leading high-value categories
Demonstrable public sector experience, with bonus points for those who've also worked in the wider healthcare space
A strategic thinker with hands-on capability, someone who leads by example and can get into the detail when needed
Strong influencing skills - with the ability to engage and challenge senior stakeholders across diverse business functions
Category expertise across indirects, capex, healthcare, estates, or professional services
A proactive, confident leader who thrives in an evolving environment and isn't afraid to challenge the status quoWe're looking for someone who combines commercial confidence with emotional intelligence. Someone who can bring positive energy, clarity, and calm leadership to a capable team that's ready for focus, encouragement, and a clear direction.

Location: Birmingham (2-3 days a week on site), with flexibility to travel to London or key supplier sites as needed, some weeks may be more London-focused depending on business priorities. This is a visible, relationship-led role where your presence will help build trust and drive momentum.
